Service Program Initiatives
Soaring to Greater Heights of Sisterhood and Service
Service and sisterhood have been the cornerstone of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® since 1908. The theme for 2022 -2026 is Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha wants to build upon our sorority's rich legacy of service and lead on the front lines of change, education, and advocacy.
There are six initiatives in which members of Alpha Kappa Alpha will engage. Sigma Omicron will host events, workshops, seminars and activities that align with these six initiatives.
The Six International Program Initiatives
This is the sorority's foundation initiative. We will intentionally take time to fellowship and form lifelong relationships based on affinity, love, trust, respect, and shared goals and interests, while concurrently building on our foundation to serve others.
We will support families by providing weekend and holiday meals to children, fight stigmas and raise awareness on mental health, work with children 11-13 so they can become leaders and help seniors with workshops and programs.
We will help our members and the community build wealth by having the first black owned, women led, sorority based federal credit union, hold workshops on financial wellness and giving, support women entrepreneurs, and funnel money into the black community with black dollar days.
We will work to protect the environment by planting trees, creating and maintaining community and home gardens, reducing household waste and host shredding and recycling days.
We will equip communities with the strategies to utilize their voices by engaging in voter education, registration and mobilization, host public policy and candidate forums.
We will celebrate excellence and have a focus on our local community. —”Local Change, Big Impact, and Global Showcase.”
